Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a Nutritionist?
A Registered Dietitian is a nutrition professional which has a legal definition. An RD has a minimum of a bachelors degree in nutrition science, completion of an accredited dietetic internship (many which lead to a master’s degree), and successfully pass the national boards exam by the Commission of Dietetic Registration. An RD must maintain at least 15 hours of continuing education each year. There is no standard definition for a “nutritionist”. There is no qualification needed to be called a nutritionist.
Do you take insurance?
No, but I provide you with a superbill upon receipt of payment. You can submit the superbill to your insurance company for reimbursement. Some companies cover nutrition counseling, however, most do not. If you choose to submit an insurance claim, the reimbursement will go directly to you as you have already paid for your services.
Do you provide phone/web based sessions to client all over the US?
Yes, I do. I have several clients who do not live in the area. The phone sessions work very well for them. All of my services with the exception of the supermarket tour are available via phone sessions and the web. Depending on the package purchased, each client will have a weekly phone session and unlimited email support from me.
Do you create the recipes listed on your website from scratch?
Some of the recipes I have created, some have been adapted from another source, and most come directly from another source, in which I provide the direct link to their website.
What is Intuitive Eating?
Intuitive Eating is the innate knowing of what, when, and how much to eat from one’s own individual needs. Intuitive Eating is responding t ones natural hunger cues, listening to your body, and eating exactly what your body wants when you are truly hungry and stopping when you are satisfied. Intuitive Eating brings people back to their natural weight by choosing the right foods at the right time, in the right amount. The common approach for weight control is through dieting, however, diets have a 95% failure rate. Restrictive eating eventually leads to overeating. By responding to your natural hunger cues, you can return to your natural healthy weight for your body type and maintain it.
How many sessions does someone require?
This is very individual. Some require just one or two sessions, while others require multiple sessions. Individual sessions can be purchases as well as packages. Custom packages are available as well.
